There Won’t Be Blood El Dorado Kansas 1913 Oil on Canvas 18x24 sold
I was handed an old glass print with a standard derrick and an old car that had stopped by. The owner of the glass print, Peggy Dietz, asked if I would be interested in making a painting from it. I told her that I'd love to. The story goes that Peggy's aunt was on her way to Colorado and was making her way through Kansas and had stopped at this oil well in El Dorado, Kansas around 1913. Peggy's aunt was a photographer and carried her equipment with her wherever she went. The old photo didn't show the entire old rig, so I had to do some research. From what I knew of the old standard derricks and what I've seen in the old Salt Creek field in Casper, Wyoming I came up with this one. For those who have seen the movie " There Will Be Blood" (note that I have not seen it) here's my take of the old photo and here there won't be blood, or will there? This painting has a catch to it… there are six drops of blood in the painting... (paint) key is only six… the clue is not guide wires ties or stakes. Can you fined them? Photo prints available I do recommend a large print to see where the drops are.
