RBC (Red Boots Coots) Wild well Control Oil on panel 16x12 2011 Print from only
A tribute to the “Red Adair” “Boots” Hansen “Coots” Matthews Wild well Control team. Also a tribute the cast and crew of the Movie “Hellfighters” “Hellfighters is a 1968 American film starring John Wayne, Katharine Ross, Jim Hutton, Bruce Cabot, Jay C. Flippen and Vera Miles. The movie, directed by Andrew V. McLaglen, is about a group of oil well firefighters, based loosely on the life of Red Adair. Adair, "Boots" Hansen, and "Coots" Matthews, served as technical advisors on the film”.
In the opening scene they show a drilling rig tripping out of the hole just as it’s comes in. The B.O.P won’t close and due to that the hands are trying to close it down manually but, one the guys hits the light bulb and it breaks and caught the rig on fire.
This painting is my impression on that scene.
Note this painting was sold to Kirk Krist of the Boots & Coots International Well Control Inc, but it was damaged in shipping… so prints are the only from. Kirk owns the number one print of the series of limited printing.

Wildcatters 1923 11x14 Oil on panel
This painting was taken from an old photo from the Peggy Dietz collection. Did some alterations from the old photo. The old car and some of the people are the same, but the red head is now Peggy herself. Thought I put her in there this time. Added the old derrick in the background and changed the plate to a Texas plate but keep the same number. Theme of this painting is set in Texas 1923 and gave the name Wildcatters to fix that new theme. Place them near their dream and to show three persons getting together to follow their dream of making it big in the oilfield. Many people back then were adventurous strong willed, just as the Texas people are today. |
