OILFIELD
I’ve return to my roots which is the oilfield or as we lovingly refer to it as “The Patch”. My brother and I grew up following my dad from rig to rig. Dad was a well site geologist. My brother and I were like most kids whose dads worked in the patch. When on location we spent many hours pretending we were drilling wells along with throwing dirt clods into the reserve pit sinking light blubs and pop cans…. I began working in the oilfield at 16. Here I had many opportunities to learn the industry from moving drilling rigs, hauling water to them, production work… etc. I have always worked around heavy equipment whether in the oilfield or construction. As mention in my bio art has always been there. I have an impressionistic style to realism. The guys in the patch have given me much material to work from and stories. There is a story with every painting.

A Modern Day Impressionist |
|
Galen Cox became interested in art at a young age and enjoyed art classes through his school years. He has studied under Bob Thomas and Joseph Miller at Red Rocks Community College. He has attended the Art Students League of Denver where he found many artists and classes to continue to sharpen his drawing and painting skills. Galen has been influenced by the impressionist painters as well his Geologist father and Artist mother. With this in mind, he has been determined to paint not like other painters but in his own way of interpretation. Galen Cox was born in Montana. He has always felt at home in Montana even though he lives in Denver, Colorado. Galen said someday he would like to return to Montana where the big sky country still continues to influence his artwork. With the help and support of his wife Marilyn, Galen has also benefited greatly from opportunities he has had to paint with artists such as Bob Thomas, Marcia Cox, Joseph Miller, Margaretta Gilboy, Dan Schultz, Kathryn McMahon, and Mary Ann Cherry. The kindness of these artists and teachers has further inspired him. |
